PERFORMANCES and CLASSES
At Grebel dance, we feel that performance at different levels of skill are
important for the confidence, self-esteem and growth of the student.  Having
performed all over the world, Stevan Grebel has been a much sought after
teacher and choreographer for over 39 years.  He has a wealth of experience
and knowledge to pass on to his students. His understanding of the Vaganova
system of teaching, as taught to him by A.Pushkin of the Kirov Ballet Academy
in Leningrad, is an inspiration to his students.  His classes are logical and
musical; and feature simple, consistent, and progressive combinations for the
development of each level.  These classes develop clean technique that
promote less injuries, elongated muscles and high extensions.  The students
move well across the floor, with quickness, agility and precision.  Whether the
student is pre-professional, preballet, beginning ballet, or adult ballet, he/she
has an opportunity to train in a positive atmosphere where each student is
given individual attention and the classes are kept small.  Director Stevan
Grebel teaches and oversees all aspects of the program, from teaching
classes,  to choreographing and setting performances.  His choreography has
been widely applauded here in Alabama, and the U.S., as well as in Europe.
In the Alabama Youth Ballet  the students have an opportunity to learn and
perform traditional classical ballets as well as contemporary and modern
ballets.

The transition from classroom to stage is significant.  Since ballet is a
performing art, the experience of performing in a theater setting is most
valuable.  Our students have at least two opportunities to perform each year -
in
THE NUTCRACKER and in the year-end performance.  The end of the
year performance features students from all levels.  A fee is required for each
production in which the student chooses to participate.

The Alabama Youth Ballet Company  is representative of different ages and
skill levels, and students are accepted based on their commitment and desire
to be a part of a pre-professional company which adheres to the finest
standards; where the students learn to work as a part of one body, as well as
to discover their utmost potential as individuals.   Grebel Dance offers a
summer intensive each year which is open to students who study all forms of
dance.  Guests artists are invited to teach on weekends and during special
workshops.  Since ballet is the basis for all styles of dance, it is an integral part
of any dancer's training.  The students at Grebel Dance are also encouraged
to participate in auditions and workshops at other companies, which enables
them to meet other dancers and teachers and to expand their knowledge of
the dance world.  Many of the Grebel's students over the years have been
accepted to the
Alabama School of Fine Arts, Kirov Academy, Alabama
Ballet, North Carolina School of the Arts, ABT Summer Intensives, School of
American Ballet, Joffrey and Houston Ballet.  Others have been accepted into
professional companies in the United States and all over the world.

Alabama Youth Ballet Company students must be committed to at least 4
classes per week for Senior Company and at least 2 classes per week for
Junior Company.  We will look towards current and future students who train
with us, as well as those with other schools, to participate.    We  offer
educational dance classes and performances to the community of the
Jefferson-Shelby counties area, and invite students from all areas to study and
perform with us.
