B. A. in Dance, Birmingham-Southern College, M.A. in Elementary Education, University of
company, directed by Teri Weksler, former member of the Mark Morris Dance Group. Since
joining the company in 1994, she has performed repertory programs and school shows in
Birmingham and throughout Alabama. Through her work with Southern Danceworks, Lisa has
performed several solos and duets, and has worked with several gifted choreographers and
world renowned dancers. Lisa has also performed with the Alabama Ballet under the direction
Lisa Gibbs is a professional dancer with Southern Danceworks, a professional modern dance
Exclusively Ballet, and ballet classes at Children's Dance Foundation. To further her own
education, she continues to take classes in ballet and modern, and attends as many
workshops as possible.
Mrs. Gibbs continues a performance career with two emerging companies: Sanspointe, a
modern dance company, and Arova, a contemporary ballet company. Visit

In the fall of 2002, she was hired by Samford University to teach ballet and modern. In the fall
of 2005, she joined the Samford Theatre staff full time. Ms. Gibbs now provides secretarial
assistance to the professors, oversees the box office, assists with publicity and coordinates the
summer theatre camp in addition to teaching technique classes in ballet and modern, as well
as dance history and choreography. Ms. Gibbs is a member of the Alabama Dance Council
and the National Dance Educators Organization.
Lisa and her husband Charles have two children and two cats. They live in Bluff Park and
enjoy camping and hiking. Lisa's goal is to one day hike at least a part of every mountain
range in the United States.
