MODERN DANCE CLASSES WITH Rachel Inman
|
Rachael Inman is currently exploring the genre of Aerial Dance through her
choreographic work and feels her investigation and interest in "flying" reflects a
common curiosity in mankind. While researching the form she was fortunate to
study with Terry Sendgraff, a pioneer of Aerial Dance and the low-flying trapeze.
One of Inman’s aerial solos, "By a Thread…", was commissioned by “Of Moving
Colors Productions” in Baton Rouge, LA, and was selected to be performed in the
Louisiana Alliance for Dance Festival in 2005. She has also worked within the field
of dance technology and has produced an aerial video-dance that was selected for
the 2003 "Dance Beyond the Stage" film festival. Mrs. Inman continues to be
intrigued by the interaction and relationship between dance and technology. With a
Lebanese background, graduate research in “belly dance”, and extensive
instruction from Virginia Mendez, founder of the Coalition of Middle Eastern Dance,
she has been inspired to create “The Red Tent” movement experience.
Collaborating with licensed therapist Melea Stephens, they are developing a dance
therapy curriculum that addresses the female body image while employing
movement material that originates from Middle Eastern technique. This experience
seeks to celebrate the feminine form while finding healing through unity in body,
mind and spirit.
While receiving her Master's of Fine Arts in Dance from Florida State University she
was honored to work with many inspiring and talented professors including the
esteemed, Suzanne Farrell. Her love of dance education has brought her to teach in
a range of venues with an even wider range of individuals from the young to the
“young at heart”. Mrs. Inman has taught at the American College Dance Festival,
Florida Dance Educators Conference, the Alabama Dance Festival, and guest
modern faculty at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. She is, most importantly, proud
mother of two wonderful daughters and partner to a most supportive husband.
Through Fuzión, she continues to pursue instructing, choreography, and
performance endeavors that combine elements of her heritage with inspiration from
an eclectic life.
